Landslides Render Roads in Lawrence Tavern Impassable

Several roads in Lawrence Tavern, West Rural St. Andrew, are now impassable and others reduced to single lane traffic following several landslides in the area today.

The police say heavy rains have caused the land slippage.

Councilor for the Lawrence Tavern Division, the JLP’s John Myers, says he toured the area today.

The police are advising motorists to avoid the Norbrook Fording, Grants Pen Fording and sections of Lawrence Tavern near the Lawrence Tavern Police Station.

Councillor Myers is calling on the National Works Agency, NWA, to clear the roads.

When contacted by our news center, the Manager of Communication and Customer Service at the NWA, Stephen Shaw, says the agency is assessing the situation.

Meanwhile, the National Works Agency says its teams have been mobilized to deal with multiple landslides in sections of St. Andrew as heavy rains continue to affect some communities.
