Lasco Urges Govt to Begin Public Education Campaign before Sugary Drinks Tax

79

Chairman of the Lasco Group, Lascelles Chin, is urging the government to pursue a campaign geared at educating people on the harmful effects of sugar even from starchy products.

He was reacting to Finance Minister Audley Shaw’s announcement of an imminent tax on sugary beverages.

The Minister, yesterday, warned manufacturers of sugary beverages to change the contents of their products ahead of the implementation of the tax.

Mr. Chin says it would be unfair to impose the tax on sugary drinks without taxing other sugar products.
