Chairman of Wisynco Jamaica Limited, William Mahfood says he’s not in support of a call by Government Senator Matthew Samuda for a ban on the importation of some plastic bags and styro-foam containers into Jamaica.

Wisynco is one of the country’s leading manufacturing and distribution companies.

Wisynco manufactures beverage brands such as WATA, CRAN-WATA and BOOM.

These products are packaged in plastic containers.

Mr. Mahfood says instead of pursuing the ban proposed by Mr. Samuda – the Government’s efforts would be better spent on creating a sustainable and efficient waste management system for the country.

On Friday, Senator Samuda said he’d be tabling a private members motion in the Senate, to ban the importation of plastic bags and styro-foam which weigh below the prescribed capacity.
