Minister of Local Government and Community Development, Desmond McKenzie, is urging individuals to work with the National Solid Waste Management Authority, NSWMA, in preparation for the hurricane season.
Meanwhile, government entities are reportedly carrying out the necessary tasks to ensure the safety of citizens and are urging communities to play their part.
The Hurricane Season officially began on June1.
Executive Director of the NSWMA, Audley Gordon, says the organization’s focused on designated problem areas throughout the various regions.
These include dense gullies and drains as the accumulation of waste can lead to flooding of the surrounding areas.
Mr.Gordon is also urging individuals to contribute to the NSWMA’s clean up efforts by not littering.
He says the NSWMA will continue to monitor these areas as the season progresses.
Mr. Gordon says that the pruning of trees should be used as compost to benefit the environment.
