President of the Medical Association of Jamaica, Dr. Myrton Smith, says more must be done to address the long wait by patients at public health facilities.
Dr. Smith says he agrees with Health Minister, Dr. Christopher Tufton, that many Jamaicans die while waiting on access to health care.
Dr. Tufton told the House of Representatives last week that the average wait times for Accident and Emergency and Surgical patients were far too long.
He theorised that this may have led to several deaths.
Dr. Tufton says the government will be moving to address the problem. However, Dr. Smith says he eagerly awaits announcements on how the problem will be remedied.
