Mentally Ill Man Shot Dead By Police After he Chopped His Mother, Nephew to Death


A mentally ill man was fatally shot by the police after he chopped his mother and nephew to death at their home in Martha Brea, Trelawny on Saturday.

Dead are 56-year-old Esmeralda Gordon and 5-year-old Levon Walker.

The mentally ill man has been identified as 28-year-old Leon White.

Head of the Trelawny Police, Senior Superintendent Kirk Ricketts, says the police responded to the home after residents reported hearing cries for help.

SSP Ricketts says Mr. White was killed following a confrontation with the police.

SSP Ricketts says further investigations have revealed that Mr. White would often become aggressive when he didn’t take his medication.
