JLP Caretaker for South East St Catherine, Robert Miller, is calling for the resignation of the Cumberland High School board. This comes days after the Prime Minister Andrew Holness intervened in a matter that led to the permanent appointment of the school’s acting Principal, Darien Henry.
Our news centre revealed in May that Cumberland’s Board Chairman, Samuel Chambers, was refusing to comment on why the Board did not recommend that Darien Henry be confirmed as Principal despite reports that Mr. Henry amassed the most points during the interview process.
In a statement yesterday, Mr Miller demanded the immediate resignation of the school’s board to make way for a new board of directors to continue what he describes as the transformation taking place at Cumberland High.
He says the Samuel Chambers-led board cannot continue to govern the institution.
Mr. Miller says politics has no place in the education of the nation’s children.
When our news centre contacted Chairman of the Cumberland High School’s Board, Samuel Chambers, he said he hasn’t seen the JLP caretaker’s statement calling for the board to resign en bloc.
Mr Chambers says all members of the school’s board serve for a predetermined period. He says the current board’s tenure ends early next year.
