Minister Shaw Announces Investigation into RoundUp

Minister of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries, Audley Shaw, says he’s launched an investigation into allegations that foreign-made weed killer, Roundup, is carcinogenic.

The product is made by German Company Bayer AG.

Minister Shaw says there’ve been calls for the product to be banned in Jamaica, based on allegations it causes cancer, and based on reports that several foreign victims have been awarded damages by US courts.

But he says research on whether the product causes cancer, are inconclusive.

He notes that other countries have banned Round Up.

But Minister Shaw says it’s too early for Jamaica to take that route.
