Mayor of Montego Bay, Homer Davis, is repeating his call for the government to extend the State of Public Emergency in St James in order to maintain the gains made over the last year.
The State of Emergency in the parish will expire next Thursday, January 31.
The enhanced security measure was declared in St James on January 18 last year.
Mayor Davis says since the start of 2019, the parish has recorded four murders, compared to 12 murders recorded for the similar period in 2018.
Mayor Davis says the trend in murder reduction is evidence to support calls for a continuation of the enhanced security measure.
Homer Davis was addressing the launch of the second staging of the Jamaica International Exhibition at the Hilton Rose Hall Resort in St James on Tuesday.
