Murder Trial For Former MP Set for October 28


The trial for the man accused of murdering former Portland Eastern Member of Parliament, Dr. Lynvale Bloomfield, is scheduled to get underway on October 28.

Twenty-one year old Simeon Sutherland, was charged for murder in March but his attorney, Peter Champagnie is expected to make a request to transfer the matter to the Supreme Court in Kingston.

Mr. Champagnie is arguing his client won’t get a fair trial in Portland.

Sutherland was questioned twice by the police, before he was formally charged for Dr. Bloomfield’s murder.

During the initial  questioning, Sutherland reportedly admitted to being with Bloomfield several hours before his nude body being discovered with stab wounds but he denied knowledge of the stabbing.

Bloomfield was found with multiple stab wounds by an employee at his home in Passley Gardens, Portland on February 2.
