North-South Toll Hike Coming

Director of Public Relations and Communication at the Transport Ministry, Vando Palmer, says there’ll be an increase in the toll rates for users of the North South Highway between Caymanas Estate in St. Catherine and Mamee Bay in St Ann.

He says the new rates will take effect on Saturday September 3.

Mr. Palmer says the increases are due to the slippage in the value of the Jamaican dollar among other things.

Mr. Palmer says the new toll rates will be revealed tomorrow.

Meanwhile he says Transport Minister, Mike Henry, met with the Police High Command today to get additional police patrol on the highway to improve security.

Mr. Palmer says Minister Henry is also pursuing a joint approach with the developers to resolve the issue of repairing a section of the North-South Link of Highway 2000 that was damaged by a landslide in May.
