Old Harbour Power Plant Firmly Roots Jamaica in the Liquefied Natural Gas Industry


Prime Minister Andrew Holness says the completion of the New Fortress Energy plant in Old Harbour firmly roots Jamaica in the Liquefied Natural Gas, LNG industry.

He was speaking at the Floating Storage and Regasification Terminal in Old Harbour, St Catherine on Friday.

Prime Minister Holness also lauded the Electricity Sector Enterprise Team, ESET for diversifying the country’s energy sector.

He says the country’s moving apace to meet its renewable energy target.

He says protecting the Caribbean Maritime University, CMU is critical given its importance to the renewable energy sector.

Mr Holness says LNG is not only cheaper than diesel, but it’s also more environmentally friendly.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Holness says New Fortress Energy will also be supplying the University of the West Indies, UWI Mona and Red Stripe with LNG.

He says the natural gas provider’s also partnering with the state- owned Jamaica Urban Transit Corporation, JUTC.
