A man has been taken into custody and two others are on the run after an attempted robbery at a building on Oxford Road in St. Andrew.
The building at 6 Oxford Road, is home to a Scotia Bank branch and number of offices, including the Citizen Security and Justice Programme, CSJP, and several consultancy firms.
Reports are about 4:40 yesterday morning, three men broke windows in order to access the building.
Police sources say at least two of the men entered the building while the other remained in a getaway vehicle. Sources say the men were armed with machetes and screwdrivers.
According to the Constabulary’s Corporate Communications Unit, CCU, the men allegedly attempted to steal furniture, appliances and electronics.
While in the building, the alarm reportedly went off, alerting a security team from the bank and the police.
Two of the men reportedly escaped in the getaway vehicle, while the third was taken into custody.
According to the police, all the items that the men attempted to steal have been recovered.
Initial reports suggest the man in custody is of unsound mind.
Meanwhile, in a statement last night, Scotia Bank says it’s Oxford Road Branch will be opened for business today.
