The government says it’s both disappointed and confused about an ultimatum given by the Opposition People’s National Party (PNP) yesterday.
Opposition Leader, Dr. Peter Phillips, warned that his party may refuse to collaborate with the government if Prime Minister Andrew Holness doesn’t fire Dr. Andrew Wheatley from the Cabinet over the scandal that has exploded at the State-owned oil refinery, Petrojam.
Communications Director in the Office of the Prime Minister, Robert Morgan, says the government appreciates the Opposition’s support on critical national matters like crime.
Mr. Morgan says the Opposition’s call for the Prime Minister to fire Dr. Wheatley isn’t consistent with the constitution.
Last week Dr. Wheatley was stripped of the Energy portfolio as a result of controversy surrounding Petrojam.
Mr. Morgan says if found culpable of wrongdoing, Dr. Wheatley would be booted from the Cabinet.
