Opposition Calls for Full Appointment of House Leader

The Peoples’ National Party, PNP, is calling for the urgent appointment of a Leader of Government Business in the House of Representatives to replace Everald Warmington, who’s acting in the position.

The leader of Opposition Business in the House of Representatives, Phillip Paulwell, says the lack of a full appointment of a Cabinet Member to the post is hampering parliamentary affairs.

The previous House Leader, Derrick Smith, fell ill and has since resigned as a Member of Parliament. He also resigned from Cabinet, where he was Minister without Portfolio in the Office of the the Prime.

Mr. Warmington, who is the State Minister in charge of Works, is not a member of the Andrew Holness Cabinet. Mr. Paulwell says since his temporary appointment, there’s been great uncertainty in the Parliamentary agenda.

He says this chaos is affecting both the opposition and government members. Mr. Paulwell says this is most apparent in the failure to answer tabled questions in a timely fashion.
