Opposition Commends Recent Gun & Ammo Seizures

Opposition spokesman on National Security, Fitz Jackson, is commending the police on foiling a gun distribution operation in Newlands, St. Catherine, where the Police Corporal was arrested.

Mr. Jackson made the call as he applauded Jamaica Customs and the Jamaica Constabulary Force, JCF, on the major gun and ammunition find at the Kingston Container Terminal last week.

In a statement on Friday, he urged the police to bring those involved in bringing illegal weapons into the country to justice.

He says every effort must be made to stop the flow of guns to the streets.

Over a 24 hour period last starting last Wednesday, 26 guns, and more than 6-hundred rounds of ammunition were seized.

Among the seizures were an Uzi submachine gun, 25 pistols and a silencer.

The police made at least two arrests in connection with the guns, believed to have originated in the United States.

Mr. Jackson says those who played a part in detecting and stopping the shipment deserve the highest commendation.
