Opposition Disappointed with Govt Response to Babies’ Deaths

Opposition Spokesman on Health, Horace Dalley, has described the response of the Minister Dr. Christopher Tufton to the deaths of four babies at the Victoria Jubilee Hospital in Kingston as disappointing.

A bacterial infection is said to be responsible for the deaths of the babies over the last two months.

The babies contracted the infection from their mothers during birth.

Mr. Dalley says the Health Minister ought to have known of the bacterial infections at the facility.

Mr. Dalley is also expressing concern with the make up of the team established by the Minister to investigate the deaths of the babies.

He lamented what he said was shortsightedness on the part of the Minister, not to have included
an independent Neonatologist and a Public Health Specialist on the team to do the investigation.
