Opposition Leader Calls for Review of Cockpit Country Boundaries

People’s Nation Party, PNP, President and Opposition leader, Dr. Peter Phillips is calling for a review of the boundaries of the Cockpit Country.

There’ve been concerns that the boundaries do not go far enough to include other areas.

The Jamaica Environment Trust, JET, has also said sections of the Cockpit Country in St. Ann and Trelawny threatened by bauxite mining should be included within the Cockpit Country protected area.

Dr. Phillips says he’s standing in solidarity for the preservation of the Cockpit Country.

In the meantime…the Opposition Leader is suggesting economic avenues other than mining be pursued in relation to the Cockpit Country.
