Opposition Welcomes Human Trafficking Rating Improvement

23

Opposition Spokesman on Justice, Senator Mark Golding, has welcomed the news that Jamaica has moved up to Tier 2 on the US Trafficking in Persons Watch List.

The US State Department made the revelation yesterday.

With moving up one notch it means the country is making important strides in tackling the scourge, and is on the way to full compliance with international standards.

Senator Golding says the new ranking must be maintained by the new Holness administration.

The State Department has commended the country’s compliance with human trafficking laws and its comprehensive multi-pronged approach to tackling the threat to human safety and freedom.

Senator Golding says the staff at the Ministry of Justice should be commended for their efforts.
