PAJ Expresses Concerns over Plans to Further Regulate Jamaican Media

President of the Press Association of Jamaica (PAJ), Dionne Jackson Miller, says she will be writing to Information Minister, Ruel Reid, about concerns over recent statements he made regarding stronger regulations for the media.

Minister Reid said in the Senate on Friday, that he’s in discussions with the Broadcasting Commission to possibly further regulate the media landscape, including social media.

Mrs. Jackson Miller says she’s concerned about the implications for press freedom.

The PAJ President also questioned whether the Broadcasting Commission is to be given more power.

Meanwhile, Minister Reid is again raising concerns about what people are allowed to transmit via traditional and social media. He says there needs to be some protection for the public.

However, he adds that he will be meeting with stakeholders, including the PAJ.

Senator Ruel Reid and Mrs. Jackson Miller were speaking on Nationwide This Morning.
