Parliament has extended the time period for submissions from the public on the Data Protection Bill.
Submissions will now be accepted up to Wednesday, January 17.
The Data Protection Bill seeks to safeguard the privacy of individuals in relation to personal data.
It also seeks to normalise the collection, regulation, processing, keeping, use and disclosure of certain information in physical or electronic form.
The Data Protection Bill is currently before a Joint Select Committee of Parliament.
A copy of the Bill can be found on the Parliament’s website: www.japarliament.gov.jm, under the heading ‘publications’.
Persons making written submissions may be required to appear before the Committee at short notice to explain their proposals.
