Opposition Spokesman on Finance, Dr. Peter Phillips is calling on the government to cease the ‘hostility’ towards the parish councils.
He says this behaviour will only affect the service provided.
Dr. Phillips was speaking at a Divisional Conference in Mocho, Clarendon on Wednesday.
The parish councils have been at odds with Minister of Local Government, Desmond Mckenzie, recently regarding whether they are allowed to take a summer recess.
The Minister has urged the councils to cancel their summer breaks, while the councils have refused the instruction on the basis that some members have already done so.
Dr. Phillips says this hostility toward Local Government is reminiscent of past behaviour from the JLP.
He says the PNP have always been the stewards of Local Government.
