As Jamaica gets closer to an election, PNP General Secretary, Julian Robinson, says the party still lacks standard bearers in approximately five constituencies including the critical East Portland seat.
Mr. Robinson says the secretariat will be moving to fill the vacancy as soon as possible.
Mr. Robinson was speaking during a media briefing following a two-day retreat at the Norman Manley Law School over the weekend.
East Portland, which was long considered a PNP bastion, fell to the JLP’s Ann Marie Vaz during a by-election last year. She defeated by PNP Vice-President, Damion Crawford.
The by-election was occasioned by the murder of the sitting MP, the PNP’s Dr. Lynvale Bloomfield.
Mr. Crawford has since relinquished caretakership of the constituency, citing financial reasons, among other things, for his decision.
Mr. Robinson says the party is focused on finding a suitable replacement.
Meanwhile, Mr. Robinson says Mr. Crawford has been hard at work in helping to craft the PNP’s next election manifesto.
