Former West Indies Cricketer and President of the Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association, Wavel Hinds, is among five new standard bearers for the Peoples’ National Party in Western Jamaica.
Mr. Hinds will be the PNP’s caretaker for East Hanover which is currently represented by the JLP’s Dave Brown. The PNP made the announcement yesterday during a meeting of the National Executive Council, NEC, in St. James.
The party said it’s ensuring that all constituencies are outfitted with representation of the highest standards and that they’ve all been vetted and approved by its Integrity Commission.
Joining Mr. Hinds is well-known educator and former UWI lecture, Dr. Walton Small. Dr. Small will be the PNP caretaker for South St. James, he hopes to succeed PNP Stalwart and former Agriculture Minister, Derrick Kellier who intends for this to be his last stint in representational politics.
Former MP for East St. Andrew, Andre Hylton, will now be pursuing the Central St. James Constituency which is currently held by the JLP’s Heroy Clarke.
Mr. Hylton lost his seat to Minister without Portfolio in the Ministry of Finance, Fayval Williams, during the 2016 elections. He’s joined by CEO and Founder of Cannabis Start-up, Scarce Commodity, Dr. Andre Haughton, who seeks to unseat Attorney General, Marlene Malahoo Forte in West Central St. James when general elections are next called.
Closing the list is Attorney-at-law Michael Hemmings who will be PNP standard bearer for the East Central St. James Constituency which is currently held by Tourism Minister, Edmund Bartlett.
PNP General Secretary, Julian Robinson said, the PNP is pleased that these men have chosen to carry the Party’s banner and the country will only benefit from their accumulated knowledge, vision and expertise.
