Police Commissioner, Major General Antony Anderson, says despite calls for a special security measure in Clarendon, the St Andrew South police division continues to lead the central Jamaica parish in murders.
The Commissioner says there’s also a reduction in murders in Clarendon when compared to the similar period last year.
Meanwhile, Commissioner Anderson says there’re between 240 and 260 gangs operating in Jamaica.
He says the security forces are taking steps to deal with these violence producers.
Chief of Defense Staff, Lieutenant General Rocky Meade, says based on the threat levels in the St Andrew South Police division, a state of public emergency would yield more results than a Zone of special Operations, ZOSO.
General Meade says the situation in the police division warranted urgent action to deal with the violence.
He also refuted criticisms that SOEs are losing their emergency impact.
General Meade says Jamaica’s yet to achieve normalcy when it comes to crime.
