Political Economist, Dr. John Rapley, says he’s cautiously optimistic that Jamaica would be able to withstand an economic recession in the United States.

There are fears that the US could be headed into a recession, amid fears over a US-China trade war and the health of the global economy.

Dr. Rapley says Jamaica is now in a much better position to manage a global recession, than it was during the last recession in 2008.

Dr. Rapley adds that the possible recession to come might not be as bad as 2008.

However, he says the recession could last longer than the 2008 recession for the United States, because of their current economic position.

Dr. John Rapley, Political economist at the University of Cambridge, and visiting fellow at the Johannesburg Institute for Advanced Study.
