‘Prepare for a Powerful Earthquake’ – UWI Lecturer

A Lecturer in the Department of Physics at the University of West Indies, Dr. Victor Douse, says there’s a strong possibility that a very big earthquake could hit Jamaica sooner or later.

Dr. Douse was speaking at an awareness session for stakeholders in the construction industry at the Bureau of Standards.

The material science expert says a fault map of Jamaica shows several faults across the country.

He says inferior construction material will only contribute to buildings that are more susceptible to collapse if and when an earthquake should occur.
