Nationwide News understands that a male football coach at a primary school in an inner city community in East St. Andrew is in jail this afternoon on suspicion of raping a 10-year old girl.
The coach was taken into custody on the weekend. He’s believed to be around 45-years old.
Allegations are that the coach called the girl into a storeroom and sexually assaulted her sometime last week. He’s accused of forcing her to have anal sex with him.
It’s understood that a fellow student and a guidance counsellor at the primary school noticed changes in the behaviour of the child.
When questioned the 10-year-old indicated that the football coach sexually assaulted her.
The accused was called into a meeting by authorities at the school last Friday and confronted with the allegations.
Sources say the coach fainted. He was taken to the University Hospital of the West Indies. He later regained consciousness.
A source told our news center that a complaint was made to the Police and the coach was taken into custody while he was at the hospital.
The football coach is being held at the Half Way Tree Police lock up. He’s said to be popular in the inner city community in St. Andrew where the school is located.
Sources close to the school say they are angry that some of the authorities at the institution attempted to cover up the incident.
Attempts to contact the principal of the school today were not successful.
Our news center was told that the Principal is busy and could not speak.
When contacted today Head of the JCF’s Corporate Communications Unit, Assistant Superintendent, Dahlia Garrick, confirmed that the coach has been taken into custody.
