Prime Minister condemns last week’s gruesome murder of 14-year-old Yetanya Francis of Arnett Gardens, in St. Andrew.
Yetanya, also known as ‘Princess’, was a student of Kingston Technical High School.
Reports are that she left her home to buy food about 8 o’clock Thursday night. It’s reported that when she didn’t return, residents of the community launched a search for her.
Yetanya’s body was found partially nude and burned, about 11:30 Friday morning in a section of the community.
In a statement yesterday, Prime Minister Andrew Holness is expressing outrage, saying no society can survive the constant killing of its children. He says the thugs who murdered Yetanya have no place in the Jamaican society we are seeking to create.
Prime Minister Holness says he’s spoken to National Security Minister, Dr. Horace Chang, and Police Commissioner, Major General Antony Anderson, who’ve both emphasized their resolve to ensure Yetanya gets justice.
Mr. Holness is calling on Jamaicans to stand united against criminals. He’s appealing to anyone with information to report it to the police or to call Crime Stop at 3-1-1. He says witnesses have no need to fear that their information will be exposed.
He’s also appealing to residents of Arnett Gardens to turn criminals over to the police, saying those who attack children don’t usually stop.
