Prisoner Suffers Eye Injury After Confrontation with Correctional Officer

The Independent Commission of Investigations, INDECOM, is confirming that a prisoner sustained an eye injury after being struck by a Correctional Officer at the Tower Street Adult Facility in Kingston.

INDECOM says it received a complaint on November 18 from the prisoner, Richard Dixon, that he was abused by a Correctional Officer.

A former inmate, who was released last Saturday and who gives his name only as Andrew, says Dixon was brutally abused by a member of a so-called ‘death squad’, operating inside the Tower Street Facility.

Andrew says Richard Dixon was beaten by a member of a patrol team that’s referred to as The Demons or ‘Teeth-a-Pull’ Squad.

He says Dixon was on a mobile phone when a correctional officer demanded that he hand over the contraband.

He says an argument then developed, before Dixon was hit in the face with a baton.

The Senior Public Relations Officer at INDECOM, Kahmile Reid, says the incident is being investigated.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Federation of Corrections, Arlington Turner, is denying that there’s a death squad operating at Tower Street.

Mr. Turner says correctional officers who are classified as demons, are those who refuse to turn a blind eye to corrupt activities.
