Acting Police Commissioner, Clifford Blake, has ordered the Inspectorate of the Constabulary to probe the circumstances that led to detainees from St James who were to be transferred to the Horizon Adult Remand Centre in Kingston being returned to St. James.
A statement on Friday from the Police High Command said about 50-detainees from St James were to be transferred Thursday to Horizon. But, the High Command says the prisoners were returned because there wasn’t enough space to hold them at Horizon.
According to the High Command, the incident caused undue anxiety among the detainees and their families.
The High Command says Senior Superintendent Wilfred Campbell of the St James Police Division, has since accepted that the usual communication between his division and the command staff at Horizon did not take place.
According to the High Command, the Inspectorate of the Constabulary has been directed to probe the issue and indicate who is at fault.
The High Command says appropriate disciplinary action will be applied if necessary.
