Vice Chairman of the National Road Safety Council, Dr. Lucien Jones says the recklessness of motorcyclists has contributed to the recent spike in road fatalities.

The Road Safety Unit in the Ministry of Transport and Works is reporting an 8-percent increase in road fatalities between January 1 and July 2 this year, when compared to the corresponding period last year.

For the first six months this year, 178 persons died in 165 motor vehicle crashes.
