The embattled Health Minister is getting support from the Chairmen of the Boards of the country’s four Regional Health Authorities.
The four, who’re all appointed by Dr. Ferguson, say they have confidence in him.
The expression of confidence was voiced in a five page statement issued today by the Southern, South East, Western and Northern Regional Health Authorities.
The Chairmen say despite the challenges faced by the health sector, doctors have been working tirelessly to deliver quality health care to patients.
They note that over the past few days, there have been unwarranted attacks in the media on the Minister and the hard working health workers, in relation to fatal bacterial outbreaks in the neo-natal wards of two of our major institutions.
The Chairmen say they recognize that such occurrences are not uncommon in any hospital internationally nor locally, but it’s as painful to the boards as it is to the families of the dead infants.
They say it’s downright insensitive when the memory of that pain is regurgitated ad nauseam in the public media.
They’re urging the media to remember that the families are still under their professional clinical care.
The statement says it’s highly irresponsible for elements and agendas to try to undermine the excellent service delivery at hospitals which have made Jamaica the envy of the world.
All four Chairmen of the Regional Health Authorities serve at the pleasure of Dr. Ferguson.
