Residents Describe Whitfield Community As Jamaica’s Version of the Middle East


A resident of Whitfield Town in the St Andrew South Police Division, is describing the community as the Jamaican version of the war torn Middle East.

Prime Minister Andrew Holness declared a State of Public Emergency in the St Andrew South Police Division on Sunday citing rampant gang violence.

The Whitfield Town resident, Tamara, says persons living in her community have been left traumatized by the constant violence.

In the meantime, a resident of Maverley, Sophia, says she hopes the enhanced security measure can guarantee long lasting peace.

A resident of Duhaney Park, Kwasi Charles, says he’s pleased with the government’s move, but he has concerns.
