The Reggae Girls are set to receive more than $20-million from the Sports Development Foundation (SDF) to assist in their preparations to participate in the women’s World Cup in France next year.
That’s according to SDF General Manager, Denzil Joseph Wilks. Mr. Wilks says $5-million was released to the Reggae Girls shortly after their historic world cup qualification. He says more money is on the way.
Jamaica’s senior women’s football team created history last month by booking their place to the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
They beat Panama 4-2 on penalties in the CONCACAF Championships at the Toyota stadium in Texas.
The Girlz played 15-games en route to qualification. They won 10, drew one and lost four.
Mr. Wilks says the SDF has always supported Jamaica’s football.
Denzil Joseph Wilks was speaking during yesterday’s sitting of Parliament’s Public Administration and Appropriations Committee, PAAC.
