The Kingston to May Pen leg of Highway 2000 was today renamed the PJ Patterson Highway, in honour of the former Prime Minister.
Mr. Patterson served as the sixth prime minister of Jamaica from 1992 to 2006.
The Highway was conceived under his administration in the late 1990s as one of several millennium projects.
Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller made the official declaration today.
Speaking at today’s re-naming ceremony, Mr. Patterson expressed his appreciation for the honour.
He thanked his colleagues for believing in and supporting his vision.
Mr. Patterson also urged commuters to exercise caution in using the highway to ensure the greatest level of safety.
He says it must not become a death trap.
