A minor earthquake reportedly struck sections of Jamaica just over half an hour ago.

The quake was felt at about 5:20 in sections of Kingston, St. Andrew and St. Catherine.

Several persons on the social media platform Twitter reported that they felt the tremor. This is the first felt tremor for the year in Jamaica.

Director General of the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management, ODPEM, Major Clive Davis, says Jamaica experienced 14 felt earthquakes last year.

During the launch of Earthquake and Tsunami Awareness week on Monday, Major Davis disclosed that ODPEM would soon embark on what he calls the largest-ever earthquake drill in the country.
