Security Forces in St. James under the State of Public Emergency seized another 49-rounds of ammunition in Granville, Montego Bay last evening.
The find brings the total number of ammunition found in St James since the start of the State of Emergency last Thursday to 80.
The Jamaica Defence Force and the Jamaica Constabulary Force issued a joint statement last evening.
According to the JDF’s Media Affairs Officer, Major Basil Jarrett, a joint military and police team were conducting search operations in a number of communities across Montego Bay.
The team entered and searched a house on Browns Lane in Granville, and found a tin container underneath the house.
The container was opened and the 49, 7.62 rounds of ammunition were discovered buried in a powdery substance.
The 7.62 round is the type of bullets used in the AK-47 assault rifles that have been linked to numerous murders and shootings in St James. No arrests were made.
However, five more persons were detained during the operation.
