Security Minister Must Pen Proposal Seeking More Influence in Police Operations

Opposition Spokesman on National Security, Fitz Jackson, is calling on National Security Minister Robert Montague to put forward a draft proposal about allowing him more say in the operations of the police force.

Mr. Jackson says if the Minister feels strongly about the issue he should make the case to Parliament and the Jamaican people.

His comment comes after Minister Montague reportedly argued for the change during a meeting with various private sector heads.

President of the Manufacturers’ Association, Metry Seaga, and president of the Private Sector Organization of Jamaica, Howard Mitchell, both agree with the suggestion.

However, Mr. Jackson says he wishes the Minister be clear in what he’s requesting.

He argues the law was amended to limit political interference for a very good reason.
