Security Minister Ready to Discuss Political Directorate’s Role in Selection of Police Commissioner

National Security Minister, Robert Montague, says it’s time for a discussion on the political directorate becoming involved in the selection of the Commissioner of Police.

Mr. Montague says this was his personal view.

His comments come as George Quallo today assumes office as Commissioner of Police.

The Commissioner is selected by the Police Services Commission, supposedly with no interference from the political directorate.

Minister Montague says there needs to be an opened, non-partisan discussion on changing this arrangement.

Meanwhile, he says the government has committed to giving the new Commissioner the resources to get the job done.
