Senior Advisor and Strategist in the Tourism Ministry, Delano Seiveright, says PAAC Chairman, Dr. Wykeham McNeill, is using his post to score political points.
In a statement this afternoon, Mr. Seiveright says extensive travel is part of the job in the Tourism Ministry. He says much of the ministry’s business is conducted overseas.
In justifying his approximately $9-million travel bill, Mr. Seiveright pointed to what he’s describing as ‘the best performance of Jamaica’s tourism sector on record’.
He says in both 2016 and 2017, tourist arrivals increased by 500,000 bringing the total number to $4.3-million.
Mr. Seiveright says the country earned more than $375-billion from tourism in 2017 alone.
According to Mr. Seiveright the numbers being recorded in tourism exceeds what he’s calling the ‘lackluster’ performance of the sector when Dr McNeill served as Tourism Minister.
Mr. Seiveright says he accepts that his travel bill is high. But, he says the bill is necessary to engage with stakeholders around the world.
