Shaw Chides Phillips, Simpson Miller Over Budget Criticism

Finance Minister Audley Shaw, says the Government has been responsible in its move to implement the income tax break plan while meeting targets under the IMF programme.

Mr. Shaw chided former Prime Minister, Portia Simpson Miller, and ex-Finance Minister, Dr. Peter Phillips, who this week described the tax package and the income tax break initiative as giving with 1-hand and taking with another.

He says it must not be forgotten that the former PNP-administration misled the country into believing that funds that the JLP had earmarked to be used for the tax break plan were being kept in a special fund.

He says the Government is fully committed to the objectives of the IMF monitored programme.
