Spanish Town Murders Force Police to Make Changes

25

The St. Catherine North Police are considering changes to their strategies, following a total of five murders in the Spanish Town area of the division within the last 48 hours.

In the latest incident, a man of Tawes Pen was shot and killed on Cumberland Road this morning.

The police have identified him as Patrick Smith.

That came hours after a mother and her two sons were reportedly murdered on Jones Avenue last night.

They’ve been identified as 43-year-old Yvette Bailey, 24-year-old Mario Burkette, and 14-year-old Travis Labbon.

The earliest incident involved the fatal stabbing of a man in Gordon Pen yesterday evening.

Head of the St. Catherine North Police, Senior Superintendent Anthony Powell, says the incidents come when Spanish Town was enjoying ‘peace and tranquility’.

He says the police are investigating the murders, but he’s not divulging much information at this time.
