St. Elizabeth Residents Again Protest At JISCO/Alpart Plant Over Persistent Dust Nuisance

Councillor for the Myersville Division, Layton Smith, is calling on the government and JISCO to address the persistent dust nuisance from the Alpart mud lake in St. Elizabeth.

Residents in and around the JISCO operated Alpart bauxite plant this morning protested at the gates of the facility.

Councillor Smith says the operators have implemented new measures to keep the dust down.

However, he says it hasn’t been effective.

He says several community members complained to JISCO.

Those, he says, have been documented.

But, the Councillor says coming out of a meeting last week, the management of JISCO indicated it would no longer be compensating affected residents.

The Myersville division Councillor disclosed the options suggested by JISCO.
