Senior Superintendent in charge of the St. James police, Wilford Campbell, says detainees held during the Public State of Emergency are being transferred to Kingston due to a lack of space at the Freeport lock-up.
The disclosure was made yesterday afternoon during an address by SSP Campbell to family members of detainees.
SSP Campbell says since the start of the State of Public Emergency on January 18, over 700 persons have been detained.
However, less than 100 of those detained remain in custody.
Prior to the announcement by the senior police officer, a number of family members gathered on the compound of the station to see their loved ones.
However, confusion came about when they heard that some detainees were transferred to Kingston, and they were not able to get detailed information.
SSP Campbell told the group he would make himself available to address the concerns of those present.
