Stadium East Reopened after $71.5m Upgrade

Minister of Sports, Olivia Grange, officially re-open the Stadium East facilities, today.

The stadium was closed to facilitate the resurfacing of the running track. The reopening of the stadium comes a day before the start of the Grace/ISSA Boys and Girls Athletics Championships at the National Stadium.

In October last year, Cabinet approved a $71.5-million contract for a German firm to replace the synthetic running track at Stadium East.

The work started in January this year. Minister Grange had high praises for the professionalism displayed by the contractors.

Minister Grange also announced a program which would provide 25 schools with 20 hurdles.

She says the program was initiated through the Sports development foundation.
