Managing Director of the Jamaica Stock Exchange, Marlene Street Forrest, says 2017 was a good year for the local stock market.
She says market capitalization increased by over 50-percent.
Market capitalization refers to the value of a company that is traded on the stock market.
Street Forrest was speaking yesterday with Nationwide News at the Jamaica Stock Exchange Regional Investment and Capital Markets Conference at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel.
She says the value traded in the market increased by nearly 40-percent.
Mrs. Street Forrest says many of the companies that listed on the stock market recently are financial, manufacturing and technology firms.
But she says agriculture firms haven’t been listing as much.
Mrs Street Forrest says the Jamaica Stock Exchange is to this year focus on climate change and its impact on the market.
