A teenager remains in police custody this afternoon as investigations intensify into the murder of a 9-year-old girl in Westmoreland.
The body of the 9-year-old child was found last night in bushes. The child was found following a search by the police and members of her family.
The head of the Westmoreland Police is Superintendent Gary McKenzie.
Superintendent McKenzie says the police suspect the child may have been strangled.
Following the discovery of the body, the police started their probe which led to the arrest of a 13-year-old boy.
The Police say the 13-year old and his family members are being questioned.
The Police Community Safety and Security Department has also been in contact with the families of the teenager and the 9-year-old girl.
Superintendent McKenzie says they’ve also notified other relevant authorities, including the Child Protection and Family Services Agency, CPFSA.
