Opposition Spokesman on Education, Rev. Ronald Thwaites is urging the government to pay specialized Mathematics and Science teachers at a higher rate, as an incentive to have them remain in Jamaica.

Rev. Thwaites says it’s time teachers are paid at market value.

Last week, President of the Jamaica Teachers Association, Dr. Garth Anderson, warned that a teacher shortage was looming.

Rev. Thwaites says the government should relax the retirement age for some teachers in an effort to combat teacher attrition.
