International Tourism Consultant, Dr Peter Tarlow, is urging the Tourism Ministry to develop a standard handbook to guide local resorts on their operations.
Dr Tarlow is leading a series of consultations with various stakeholders and the Tourism Ministry, on security in tourists attractions in Jamaica. His recommendation comes as the Jamaican destination has been rocked by international media reports of several accusations of sexual assaults in resorts.
The Ministry, through the Tourism Development Product Company Limited, TPDCo, is conducting a national audit of tourist attractions across the island.
Dr Tarlow says he’s pleased at the response of local stakeholders to recommendations to improve security in their resorts. He’s also urging security personnel to be more caring as part of their duties.
He says Jamaica has the potential to be a leader in tourism.
